First officially recognized ascent in 1953 by French team. At 6,476m, it is Nepal's highest trekking peak. The summit offers views of five 8,000m peaks including Everest. Popular as a first Himalayan mountaineering objective.

Mera Peak Expedition (18-21 days): Standard route via Hinku Valley from Lukla. Summit via Mera La: Technical glacier crossing to high camp. North Face: Alternative more technical route. Kongma La Connection: Link to EBC trek via high pass. Amphu Lapcha Pass: Technical exit to Khumbu for experienced teams.
Weather and best time to go
Weather: During the climbing season, temperatures are warm to hot in the valley as you approach the mountain. These drop rapidly as you climb up the mountain and are well below freezing at the summit. The spring climbing season generally means there is more snow on the mountain. Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the official currency. Peak permit approximately $400 (NMA). Remote approach means higher costs. Camping style trek required for portions. Budget $3,000-4,500 for guided expedition. All payments in Kathmandu.

Official: Nepali. Regional: Sherpa communities in Hinku Valley. Rai people in lower valleys. English spoken by climbing guides. Limited facilities mean guides essential for navigation.
