Climbing History
First ascent in 1956 by a British expedition that climbed it as part of their acclimatization for nearby peaks. Originally named "Island Peak" due to its appearance as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Renamed "Imja Tse" officially but "Island Peak" remains common.
