OVERVIEW

This route is a classic mixed climb with all elements of the alpine experience!  While not very technically difficult there is a lot of every element of alpine climbing.  On our first day, we will hit the trail climbing steadily through the glacial valley and past Lake Anne. Eventually, we’ll reach the first component of our climb- the Fisher Chimneys.  On day two, we’ll wake up at our high camp and set out to navigate a series of different glaciers before taking on the rock of the summit pyramid.  We will descend back to our camp via the route we climb, and get some needed rest.  On day three we will break camp, climb down the Fisher Chimneys and hike back out to the trailhead.

Climbers must have previous experience with climbing rock and steep snow.  This climb requires the participant to be physically prepared for long days covering lots of ground.

FISHER CHIMNEYS - MT SHUKSAN

NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK

The Fisher Chimneys is the classic all-around alpine climb in the North Cascades. The crux of the approach day is climbing 4th class rock with an overnight pack to access the high camp at Winnie’s Slide. From our alpine bivy, we turn to alpine ice, glacier travel, steep snow climbing, more glacier travel, and eventually alpine rock climbing to stand on top of the summit pinnacle. Leaving the summit of Shuksan, means several rappels back to the glacier and reversing the climbing route. This is a big day that requires climbers to be solid in range of alpine climbing techniques. It also requires efficiency at transitions and breaks.

Elevation: 9,131 feet
Style: Alpine rock, alpine ice, glacier travel and steep snow are all significant challenges on this climb
Skill Level: Advanced
