Famous Mountains in the United States

The US is home to some of the most well-known mountain ranges in the world, including the Rocky Mountains. However, for intrepid mountaineers and trekkers, the pristine wilderness of Alaska and the Alaska Range are the preeminent destination.

Situated at the heart of the Alaska Range is Denali. At 6,190 metres (20,310 feet) in elevation, Denali is the highest peak in North America and one of the world’s Seven Summits. Climbing the peak is a tough task, requiring a high level of physical fitness and a lot of technical abilities.

  • The United States are home to 96 different mountain ranges spread across the whole of the country, from Georgia to Alaska. Away from the two aforementioned ones, The Cascades, in the Pacific Northwest, the Appalachian Range, on the East Coast, and the Sierra Nevada, in California, are the other most popular.
  • In spite of being the third most populated country in the world, the US is also one of the least densely populated. As much of the population is concentrated in urban areas, large tracts of the country are uninhabited and wild.
  • In part due to the large number of mountain ranges spread across the country, the US is home to a number of climbing festivals that run throughout the year. Among the most popular is the International Climbers Festival, hosted in Laramie, Wyoming each July.

How To Get To the United States

Due to its immense size and the diverse number of mountain ranges, there are numerous different starting points for trips to the US. Outdoor adventurers heading to the Alaska Range will fly into Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC). Meanwhile trips to the Rockies generally begin with a flight into Denver International Airport (DEN). From most starting points, it is best to rent a car and drive to the start of the trip.

Weather: Due to its immense size, the US is home to a wide variety of different climates. For the most part, summers are warm to hot. Summer is also the driest time of year in many of the country’s mountain ranges.
