Climbing history

The Cordillera Huayhuash contains Peru's second highest peak, Yerupajá (6,634m), first climbed in 1950. The region inspired Joe Simpson's book "Touching the Void." Some of the most dramatic alpine scenery in South America.

Huayhuash Circuit (10-14 days): Classic trek around the range crossing multiple high passes. Siula Grande: Famous from "Touching the Void." Yerupajá: Technical climbing objective. Many 6,000m peaks for mountaineers.

Weather: During the climbing season, expect average daily temperatures between 10 ºC and 20 ºC (50 ºF and 70 ºF) in the Cordillera Huayhuash. These tend to decrease at higher elevations and do not include windchill, which can be quite strong on elevated mountain passes.
