The Langtang Valley was first explored by mountaineer Bill Tilman in 1949. Langtang Lirung (7,227m) was first climbed in 1978. The 2015 earthquake devastated Langtang village, killing over 300 people. The valley has been rebuilt and reopened to trekkers.
Notable itineraries
Langtang Valley Trek (7-10 days): Classic trek to Kyanjin Gompa via Langtang village. Kyanjin Ri (4,773m): Popular viewpoint above Kyanjin Gompa. Tserko Ri (5,000m): Higher viewpoint with panoramic Langtang views. Gosainkunda Lakes (12-14 days): Sacred alpine lakes via Laurebina Pass. Helambu Extension: Lower altitude alternative through Sherpa villages.
Currency
Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the official currency. ATMs in Kathmandu only - carry sufficient cash. Teahouse costs lower than Everest region ($10-20/day). Langtang National Park permit required. Shorter drive from Kathmandu makes it budget-friendly.
Languages
Official: Nepali. Regional: Tamang language predominant, Tibetan influences in upper valley. English spoken by guides and in main lodges. The Tamang people are the traditional inhabitants of the Langtang region.

Notable itineraries
Any trip to Yala Peak likely begins with a flight into Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), in Kathmandu. Most guides will opt to meet here before providing transport to the Lama Hotel. From here, base camp can be reached in about four days of trekking. Your travel route will vary depending on the expedition you choose. Weather: During the climbing season, average daily temperatures at the base of Yala Peak hover around 17 ºC (63 ºF). These temperatures drop toward freezing as elevation is gained on the mountain.
