Most trips to Mount Shasta will begin with a flight into Redding Municipal Airport (RDD), which can be reached directly from the airports in San Francisco and Los Angeles. From here, it is best to rent a car and make the short drive to one of the mountain’s trailheads. Your travel route will vary depending on the expedition you choose. Weather: During the climbing season, average daily temperatures hover around 10 ºC (50 ºF) at the base, with slightly warmer temperatures in the summer and cooler ones in the shoulder seasons. Temperatures drop to well-below freezing toward the summit.
