Illiniza Sur (5,248m) first climbed in 1880. Illiniza Norte (5,126m) is a popular non-technical peak. The twin peaks are visible from Quito. Refugio Nuevos Horizontes provides base for both climbs.
Notable itineraries
Illiniza Norte (1-2 days): Non-technical scramble, good acclimatization. Illiniza Sur (1-2 days): Technical glacier climb. Refugio approach: 3-hour hike to mountain hut. Often combined with Cotopaxi preparation.
