Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in KathmanduAfter landing at Tribhuwan International Airport, Highland eco trek representative in Nepal will meet you and transport you to your accommodation.
Day 2 Sightseeing in Heritage SitesWe go off on our journey to four magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Sites after breakfast. These include the architecturally remarkable Durbar Square, the revered Hindu shrine of Pashupati Nath, the fascinating "Monkey Temple" (Swayambunath), and the world's largest stupa, Bauddha Nath Stupa. After wrapping off our tour late in the evening, we make our way to the Highland Eco journey office for a brief briefing to discuss our journey and get to know our group pioneer (guide) and fellow adventurers.
Day 3 Morning flight to Bhadrapur then drive to TaplejungWe take an early morning flight to Bhadrapur, which is in Nepal's eastern region, from Kathmandu. then make your way to Taplejung Bazar.
Day 4 Drive to Sekathum and trek to AmjilosaWe drive to Sekathum after taking a leisurely stroll through the charming Taplejung bazaar. We continue on our journey, passing through the Solima hamlet before crossing Ghunsa Khola. Ghunsa Khola and Japantar are traversed. Our trail passes through a few villages before arriving at Amjilosa hamlet after three hours of climbing near Ghunsa Khola.
Day 5 Trek to GyablaThe trek to Gyabla from Amjilosa takes around 5 hours, passing through enchanting bamboo and juniper forests. The trail follows the Ghunsa Khola, offering serene views of the river and surrounding landscapes. The journey is a delightful mix of nature and culture, with glimpses of local villages along the way.
Day 6 trek to GhunsaBefore reaching Ghunsa village, trekkers pass through Falek, a Tibetan settlement, and a Sherpa village. The trail meanders through alpine forests, offering glimpses of the stunning natural scenery. Crossing the Ghunsa Khola, trekkers finally arrive at Ghunsa village, a charming Himalayan hamlet nestled in the mountains.
Day 7 Acclimatize dayA day in Ghunsa allows trekkers to acclimatize to the high elevation, ensuring a safer ascent. Resting and engaging in short hikes enable exploration of the surrounding areas. From quaint village trails to nearby viewpoints, Ghunsa offers opportunities to soak in the Himalayan ambiance before continuing the trek.
Day 8 Trek to KhambachenContinuing north from Ghunsa, the trek unveils stunning mountain vistas along the riverbank, adorned with wildflowers and traversing rhododendron and pine forests. Crossing Rampuk Kharka bridge and navigating past a waterfall and avalanche-prone terrain, trekkers are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of Mt. Jannu before reaching Kambachen for an overnight stay.
Day 9 Sight trip to Janu base campPreparing a packed lunch, trekkers embark on a day side trip to Jannu Base Camp, ideal for acclimatization and breathtaking Himalayan vistas. The journey offers a chance to marvel at the majestic peaks while experiencing the high altitude ambiance, ensuring a memorable adventure amidst the grandeur of the Himalayas.
Day 10 Trek to LonakToday's trek is challenging but invigorating, starting with a rugged terrain and boulders along the riverbank, leading to a picturesque waterfall. Crossing a bridge to Ramtang monastery, we navigate through an avalanche area at a steady pace, descending to the river and finally reaching Lhonak, our destination for the day.
Day 11 Visit Pampema and trek back to KhambachenSetting off from Lhonak, our journey to Kanchenjunga Base Camp parallels the expansive Kanchenjunga Glacier. After Pangpema, we descend to the Base Camp, greeted by awe-inspiring vistas of Mt. Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. Returning via Pangpema, we head back to Khambachen for a well-deserved night's rest, cherishing the Himalayan beauty.
Day 12 Trek to ghunsaUsing Kambache, we slide the distance to Ghunsa. We studied a comparable course while we were scaling.
Day 13 Trek to AmjilosaWe creep toward Phale from Ghunsa. We pass by a few Manes and the nearby religious community. We walk through the backcountry of Juniper and arrive at Phale. To Gyabla, it's a steady drop from here. Traveling via Chhundatangka Khola, we arrive at Gyabla. On our hike, we come to a nearby waterfall. We also pass through Sumbung Khola prior to arriving in Amjilosa.
Day 14 Trek to GyblaAfter a while of trekking, a picturesque waterfall captivates our attention. Continuing our journey, we pass by the quaint settlement of Gybla, nestled amidst the Himalayan landscape. The serene surroundings and the rhythmic flow of the waterfall add to the enchanting allure of our trekking adventure.
Day 15 Trek to Sekathum and drive to IllamAfter a 2-hour trek from Gybla, we embark on a scenic drive back to Illam via Taplejung Bazaar. As we bid farewell to the Himalayan vistas, memories of our adventurous journey linger. The journey back offers time to reflect on the experiences and treasures discovered along the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek.
Day 16 Drive to Badrapur and fly to kathmanduIn the morning, we explore the lush tea gardens before embarking on a few hours' drive to Badrapur. From there, we catch an evening flight back to Kathmandu, concluding our journey with memories of breathtaking landscapes and cultural encounters from the Kanchenjunga region.
Day 17 Shopping day in KathmanduWe dedicate the day to relaxation, souvenir shopping, and exploring Kathmandu at our leisure. Whether visiting landmarks or simply unwinding, the day offers a chance to reflect on our Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek adventure. In the evening, Highland Eco Trek hosts a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of our journey.
Day 18 Fly your destinationToday marks the end of our Nepal expedition. An Adventure Trek in Nepal representative will ensure our timely transfer to Tribhuwan International Airport, allowing ample time before our scheduled flight departure. As we bid farewell to Nepal, memories of our remarkable journey linger, promising tales of adventure and discovery.
