7 Day Kilimanjaro Climbing Lemosho Route

he 7-day Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful and less crowded paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft / 5,895 m). This route offers a gradual climb, allowing for better acclimatization and a higher success rate of reaching Uhuru Peak. Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi – Lemosho Gate (7,742 ft / 2,360 m) – Big Tree Camp (9,186 ft / 2,800 m)
Start your journey with a hearty breakfast before driving to Lemosho Gate. Once permits are sorted, the adventure begins! Hike through lush green rainforests, listening to the sounds of exotic birds and monkeys. After a 4-hour trek, you’ll reach Big Tree Camp, where you’ll enjoy a warm meal and sleep under the stars. Distance: 7 km (4.3 mi) Hiking Time: ~4 hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Big Tree Camp – Shira 2 Camp (12,631 ft / 3,850 m)
Today, you’ll trek across open moorlands with incredible views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks. As you gain altitude, the scenery changes from green forests to volcanic rock landscapes. By the time you reach Shira 2 Camp, you’ll witness your first glacier views! Distance: 16.5 km (10.3 mi) Hiking Time: 9–10 hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 3: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower (15,091 ft / 4,600 m) – Barranco Camp (12,795 ft / 3,900 m)
Today is a mix of challenge and reward! Hike through a rocky landscape, reaching the Lava Tower, where you’ll stop for lunch. This is a great acclimatization point before descending to Barranco Camp. Nestled below the towering Barranco Wall, this camp offers unforgettable sunset views. Distance: 10 km (6.2 mi) Hiking Time: ~7 hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (13,106 ft / 3,995 m
Start the day by conquering the famous Barranco Wall. While it looks intimidating, the climb is fun and rewarding! Hike under massive glaciers and through valleys before arriving at Karanga Camp, where you’ll relax and enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. Distance: 5.5 km (3.4 mi) Hiking Time: ~5 hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (15,331 ft / 4,673 m)
As you ascend higher, the air gets thinner, but your excitement builds! Reach Barafu Camp, your final base before the summit push. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and mentally preparing for the biggest challenge ahead. Go to bed early, as your summit attempt starts before midnight! Distance: 4 km (2.5 mi) Hiking Time: ~3 hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 6: Barafu Camp – UHURU PEAK (19,341 ft / 5,895 m) – Millennium Camp (12,959 ft / 3,950 m)
Summit Day! Wake up around midnight for the most challenging but rewarding part of your trek. Hike under a blanket of stars, reaching Stella Point (18,885 ft / 5,756 m) at sunrise. A final push takes you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa! Congratulations, you made it! After celebrating and taking photos, descend back to Barafu Camp for lunch and a rest, then continue down to Millennium Camp for a well-deserved sleep. Distance: 15 km (9.3 mi) Hiking Time: 12–15 hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 7: Millennium Camp – Mweka Gate (5,380 ft / 1,640 m)
Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before descending through lush rainforests to Mweka Gate. Here, you’ll collect your summit certificates, take celebratory photos, and toast to your achievement! A private car will take you back to your hotel in Moshi, where a hot shower and a comfy bed await. You did it! Distance: 14 km (8.7 mi) Hiking Time: ~5 hours Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Arrival in Tanzania – Welcome to Your Kilimanjaro Adventure! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our friendly Nafika Tours team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner, meet your guides, and get a full briefing about your trek. We will also check your gear and assist with any last-minute rentals if needed.
