Itinerary

Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After breakfast, you'll travel to the Machame Gate, the starting point of your trek. From there, you'll hike through lush rainforest trails to reach Machame Camp, located at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters (9,840 feet). This first day is relatively gentle, allowing you to acclimatize
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
On day 2, you'll continue your ascent through the rainforest, which gradually transitions into moorland. You'll hike across stunning valleys and ridges until you reach Shira Camp, situated at around 3,840 meters (12,600 feet). The views of the surrounding landscape are breathtaking.
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Today's trek involves gaining significant altitude as you pass through the alpine desert zone. You'll reach the Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 meters (15,190 feet), which serves as a great vantage point. Then, you'll descend to Barranco Camp, situated at around 3,950 meters (12,960 feet). This day is essential for acclimatization.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The trek from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp is relatively short but challenging. You'll encounter the famous Barranco Wall, a steep section that requires some scrambling. After conquering this obstacle, you'll make your way to Karanga Camp, located at approximately 4,035 meters (13,200 feet).
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
This day involves a steady ascent to Barafu Camp, located at an altitude of about 4,640 meters (15,220 feet). The terrain becomes more rugged, and the air thinner as you approach the camp. Here, you'll rest and prepare for the final push to the summit.
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak
Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi.
