Itinerary
Arrival in Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a Nafika Tours representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. You’ll meet your guide, enjoy a delicious dinner, and receive a detailed trek briefing with an equipment check.
Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (2,835m)
Trekking time: 6-7 hours
Distance covered: 11 km
Habitat: Montane forest
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Your adventure begins! After breakfast, we drive to Machame Gate, where the trek officially starts. Walk through a tropical rainforest, spotting blue monkeys and enjoying the lush surroundings before reaching Machame Camp for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Machame Camp (2,835m) to Shira Cave Camp (3,750m)
Trekking time: 3-4 hours
Distance covered: 5 km
Habitat: Moorland
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Wake up to your first Kilimanjaro sunrise! The trek continues with a steep climb out of the forest into the moorland zone, offering the first clear views of Kibo Peak. You’ll trek over the Shira Plateau before arriving at Shira Cave Camp for the night.
Day 3: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,900m) via Lava Tower (4,600m)
Trekking time: 6-7 hours
Distance covered: 10 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Today, you’ll ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) for high-altitude acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This trek follows the “climb high, sleep low” principle, helping your body adjust to the altitude. Enjoy stunning views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall.
Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,900m) to Karanga Camp (3,995m)
Trekking time: 4-5 hours
Distance covered: 6 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
The day starts with a thrilling climb up the famous Barranco Wall—an exciting scramble with rewarding views. The trek then continues to Karanga Camp, where you’ll rest before the final ascent to the summit.
Day 5: Karanga Camp (3,995m) to Barafu Camp (4,673m)
Trekking time: 3-4 hours
Distance covered: 4 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Your almost there! A short but steep trek leads to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the final push to the summit. After an early dinner, get some rest summit night begins at midnight!
Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,673m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), then down to Millennium Camp (3,950m)
Trekking time: 12-15 hours
Distance covered: 15 km
Habitat: Arctic & alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
The big moment has arrived! You’ll start your summit trek at midnight, climbing steep slopes toward Stella Point (5,756m). As the sun rises, you’ll make the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) the highest point in Africa!
Congratulations, you made it! After taking in the breathtaking views, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Millennium Camp for the night.
Day 7: Millennium Camp (3,950m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m)
Trekking time: 5-6 hours
Distance covered: 14 km
Habitat: Montane forest
Meals: Breakfast & lunch
The final descent leads through lush forests to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate. Celebrate your success before heading back to Moshi for a hot shower, delicious meal, and well-deserved rest.
