These 3 day /2night Mount Meru climbing and hiking tour is the best tour for acclimatization before to Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru is the dormant stratovolcano located in Arusha national park, 70km(43ml) the west of Mount Kilimanjaro in southern country of Tanzania, is the fifth highest mountain in Africa continent and the second highest in Tanzania 4566m located in Arusha national park. Mount Meru most recently had a minor eruption (1910). The several small cones and craters in the vicinity probably reflect numerous episodes of volcanic activity. The Mount Meru climb passes through different vegetation zones, In the dry forest it gives way to a dense mountain forest during the ascent to the mountain forest you will regularly see elephants and buffalo.
Itinerary
DAY 1: MOMELLA GATE (1500) – MIRIAKAMBA HUT (2500)
Early in the morning Kitano tours and safari driver will be pick you up in your hotel and drive to momella gate in arusha national park it takes almost 2hour to reach at arusha, after reach at momella gate, a guide will perform the registration at Tanzanian national park (TANAPA) after completed the registration the hiker will start hiking & climbing toward the mountain forest, they will get a chance to see giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail.
DAY 2: MIRIAKAMBA HUT (2500)- SADDLE HUT (3550)
Early in the morning after having a breakfast, you will continues ascent toward the saddle, you may see a lot of wild life along the ways, the walk will take as along the mount Meru crater and the impressive ash cone, when you arrival at camp you have the option of hiking/climbing little Mt. Meru (3820m) with your guide for further acclimate. You will be served an early dinner, so you can receive ample rest before your midnight summit attempt at saddle hut

DAY 3: SADDLE HUT (3550) – MERU PEAK (4565) AND DESCENT TO MOMELLA GATE (2500)
Summiting has an early start at around 00:00. There is a 1-hour steep climb to Rhino Point (3,800 m), then the path continues along a ridge of ash and rock to reach Cobra Point (4,350 m). The summit of Meru Peak (4,562 m) is an hour further on a steep path with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro. Depending on your speed, you can enjoy sunrise at Cobra Point or the summit. The views are stunning: the cliffs of the Crater rim, the Ash Cone rising from the crater floor, Kilimanjaro floating on the morning clouds, and the Rift Valley. The route back to Rhino Point in the morning light along a narrow ridge between the sloping outer wall of the crater and the cliffs of the inner wall is one of the most dramatic and exhilarating walks in Africa. Brunch and a brief rest are taken at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Momella Gate. After your descent to momella gate you will be picked up by Kitano tours and safari driver and drive you back to Moshi or Arusha town.
