First ascent in 1957 by a German expedition. At 5,947m, once voted the "most beautiful mountain in the world" for its perfect ice-fluted pyramid shape. Located in the Cordillera Blanca. The Santa Cruz Trek passes nearby.

Weather: During the climbing season, average daily temperatures hover around 15 ºC (60 ºF) at the base of the peak and drop well below freezing as one approaches the summit.
