First ascent by Heinrich Harrer (of "Seven Years in Tibet" fame) in 1962. At 4,884m, highest peak in Oceania and one of the Seven Summits (Messner list). Sacred to indigenous Amungme people. Access complicated by political situation and Freeport mine operations.

Normal Route via Harrer Ridge (1 day technical climbing): Fixed ropes on exposed rock, rated 5.4. East Ridge: More technical alternative. The main challenges are the approach (helicopter or multi-day jungle trek) and obtaining permits rather than the technical climbing.

be careful when book with them
They required us to pay a large deposit. But they canceled the whole climbing just a few days before the start date. Now they do not want to refund our deposit.
