Climbing history
First ascent in 1982 by Vern Clevenger and Galen Rowell. At 6,440m, a striking peak in the Khumbu. Technical climbing required on all routes. Less frequently climbed than nearby trekking peaks.
Notable itineraries
Southwest Ridge (12-16 days): Standard route requiring technical climbing. Northeast Ridge: More challenging alternative. Stunning views of Everest and Ama Dablam. Expedition-style climb.
Currency
Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the official currency. Peak permit through NMA. Budget $5,000-8,000 for guided expedition. Technical equipment required.
