Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred for overnight accommodation at Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel 4 stars or Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort in Marangu village. Your head guide will meet you for your briefing, gear check and arrange for you to hire any equipment you may need.

Departing from Moshi a 1-hour drive will take you through the Village of Marangu to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate or 10 minutes drive from Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here. FB

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut 8.3KM /5MI | 4-5 HRS | RAINFOREST

Elevation: 2723m/8934ft to 3721m/12,208ft

After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, we emerge from the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, through heathland, looking for giant lobelias and groundsels. Continue up into open moorlands where small shrubs are the main vegetation. Stop halfway for lunch, to enjoy amazing views of Mawenzi. Arrive at the Horombo Huts late afternoon beneath the spectacular Kibo Summit viewpoint. Temperatures begin to drop.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut  12.5KM/7.8MI | 6-8HRS | MOORELAND

You can spend a full day and a second night at Horombo. On this day, you can either rest at the huts or take a stroll up to the Mawenzi base camp then return to the Horombo Huts. This extra day will help your acclimatization, and further your understanding of the mountains weather and altitude. After your pause, you will continue up to the Kibo Huts on your fourth day for your midnight start to the summit.

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Elevation: 3721m/12,208ft to 4714m/15,466ft

After breakfast, we continue on through the dwindling heathland that blends into a moonscape as you enter the sweeping saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo. Here while we stop for lunch, and later when you cross this surprisingly large saddle, you can examine the summit climb up Kibo that you will be starting in just a few hours.

HOROMBO HUTS- KIBO HUTS: 10.5KM/6MI | 6-8HRS | SEMI-DESERT

Elevation: 4714m/15,466ft to 5895m/19,341ft

Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
We continue our way to the summit in a switchback formation through trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion, we ascend through heavy scree and possibly snow towards Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way.
Congratulations,  you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
After photos, celebrations and maybe a few tears of joy we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep

KIBO HUTS – SUMMIT: 6.25KM /3.9 MI UP | 5-7HRS | – HOROMBO HUTS: 15.75KM /9MI DOWN | 5-6HRS

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down stopping at the Mandara Huts for lunch. Remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters, since you will be leaving them here. You return back to the Marangu Park Gate and receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles. From the gate, a vehicle will meet you to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi or Marangu. Enjoy a long overdue hot shower, dinner and celebrations!!

Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania

You will be picked up at your hotel at around 08:00am and transferred to the Lemosho gate located on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After the registration process you will still start our climb steadily through the forests of the Lemosho glades to reach Big Tree camp where you will be spending the night.

Day 2: Lemosho Glades (2385m) to Big Tree Camp (2780m)

Today you will cover a lot of ground as you trek across a plateau of grassy moorland and heather scattered with volcanic rock formations. We will trek through Shira 1 Camp from where there are often views of Kibo Peak floating on the clouds as we head towards our destination which is Shira 2.. We gain a reasonable amount of altitude as we head towards Shira 1 and parts of the route are fairly steep. As you proceed towards Shira 2 you will get the chance to view the Northern Ice fields from the western side of the mountain with some unusual views of Kibo. Our steady climb across the moorland of the Shira Plateau will help with acclimatization and we enjoy great panoramic views.

Day 3: Big Tree Camp (2780m) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m)

Your trek starts with an ascent with far-reaching panoramic views, walking in to the climatic zone of the upland desert and on the lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. You will reach the distinct pinnacle of the Lava Tower (4640 m), our high point for the day and a great place to enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon we make a steep descent to our camp for the night, located in the base of the Great Barranco Valley (3960 m), sheltered by towering cliffs but with extensive views of the plains below.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)

After a good night’s rest and breakfast, we set off on our walk to Barafu camp at 4640m. The climb will take us across desolate scree slopes with no vegetation around us at all. It’s a tough steep walk made more difficult by the altitude. On arriving at camp we eat and spend the afternoon resting as we prepare for a long night and day ahead. It is important to keep hydrated and warm. We have an early dinner and then try to get some sleep as we will be getting up at between 11pm and 12pm to start the climb to the summit.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3960m) to Barafu Camp (4640m)

We start off at around midnight, and walk steeply upwards to the summit glaciers. We will be climbing scree for 4 to 5 hours but gain incredible height over a short distance. The views are spectacular. We should be on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739m) as the first rays of the sun hit us. Spectacular ice cliffs within the crater surround us and the views to jagged Mawenzi peak and beyond are breathtaking. Another hour’s walking takes us to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). We begin our descent by returning to Stella Point and then descending on scree slope and track back to Barafu Camp for breakfast, before finally heading down to Millennium Camp for a long well-earned rest.

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4640m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) & down to Millennium Camp (3790m)

A gentle trek takes us down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where we complete park formalities and receive certificates, which you can hang up with pride! We are then met by our vehicles and return to the hotel in Moshi, where you can treat yourself to a hot welcome shower.

Day 7: Trek Millennium Camp (3790m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)

The day is left free to wind down after the trek before your flight home. Depending on flight times you could go and explore Moshi town and grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport.

After checking in at the airport (JRO) you will meet your driver who will take you to the hotel in Moshi. For the rest of your day, you can do anything you want such as relaxing by the pool or you can explore more of Moshi. Your guide will meet with you in the evening and they will check all of your equipment as well as giving you a briefing about the climb.

After having had breakfast in the hotel, we will take you to the Kilimanjaro National Park and to the Londorossi gate which is 2,250 metres above sea level. The journey will take about 2 hours. After completing the paperwork that is necessary for you to fill in so that you can climb, your ascent can begin. In the first section, you will walk through a rainforest where you may be able to see monkeys and animals in the vegetation. In the higher altitudes, you will be in the moorland which has less plant life. Approximately 3 hours later you will arrive at the first camp, Mti Mkubwa (also known as Big Tree Camp or Forest Camp), where you will spend your first night on Kilimanjaro sleeping in a tent.

After an early breakfast, you will start climbing and shortly after the environment around you will change to a bushy, leafy forest. It should help you be able to see the majestic mountains in front of you more clearly. It will take about 3-4 hours and in the early afternoon you will arrive at Shira 1 Camp. From the camp, you can see a beautiful view of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. You can spend the rest of the day resting and relaxing. During the sunset, the rays of sunlight illuminate the mountains as well as the glacier on the volcano Kibo.

ascent from Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

After another early breakfast, you will start your climb. In the case of interest, you can extend your tour with no additional cost by visiting Cathedral Point. The environment around you will be rocky with bushes and low grass. The altitude change on this day is quite small and the walk isn’t too tiring. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Shira 2 Camp. At the end of the path and at the camp, there are beautiful views of Mount Meru and Great Rift Valley. You can spend the rest of your day resting. The sunlight will again illuminate the mountains and the glacier on Kibo.

ascent from Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,845m)

On this day, you will firstly climb up about 800 metres across Shira Plateau to Lava Tower, but then you will return down to a camp that is only a little higher in altitude than the last one. This day will allow you to acclimatise well to prepare for what will be coming. The greenery will lessen and the terrain will be an alpine desert. The climb will take around 6-7 hours and then you will arrive at Barranco Camp.

ascent from Shira 2 Camp (3,845m) across Lava Tower (4,640 m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

The climb today will be short, but it is more exhausting due to the harsh terrain. You will start by climbing the Great Barranco Wall where in some parts you might even need to use your hands so that you can continue your ascent. Your safety is a priority and the guide will help you wherever needed. Afterwards, you will continue up and there will be small ascents and descents. During this, you can watch the southern glacier on Kibo. At the end, you will arrive in the pretty valley known as Karanga through which you will have to pass in order to get to the camp on the other side. In the afternoon, you will have enough time to rest so that you can collect your strength for the next day and you can enjoy the stunning landscape.

ascent from Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

After breakfast in Karanga Valley, you will set out on a 3 hour hike to Barafu Camp which is 4,640m above sea level. The environment will, as on day 4, be an alpine desert. In the afternoon, you can relax before having an early dinner and sleeping lots to be prepared to climb to the peak on day 7. You will need to wake up early, so you’ll need to make sure to rest well.

ascent from Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Day 7 is the day where you will ascend to Uhuru Peak- the tallest peak on Mt. Kilimanjaro. We will wake you up just before midnight and shortly after you will have a small snack before the summit push. At this hour, the volcanic ash is frozen which means that it is a little bit easier to climb up it. You await a night-time trek in the cold heights, where there is a lack of oxygen. Even though it may be difficult, there is a high chance that you will make it to the peak with us. At sunrise you will reach Stella Point, on the rim of the crater, from where the path isn’t so steep but due to the thin air it is still tiring and requires a slow pace of walking. After sunrise, it will get significantly warmer. After another 1-2 hours you will reach your goal- Uhuru Peak which is 5,895m above sea level.After returning to Barafu Camp you will be given a hot meal as well as 1-2 hours to rest and then you will continue your descent along the Mweka Trail to Mweka Camp.

On this day you face a simple descent through a rainforest to Mweka Gate by the entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park which is 1,630m above sea level. After saying goodbye to your team, you will be driven to the hotel in Moshi where you can collect your things that you left before your journey and you will spend your last night there.

It is your final day. You’ll have breakfast in your hotel and then after checking out, we’ll transfer you to the airport.
