This 3-days climb to reach the third-highest peak, Point Lenana (4985m), on the Sirimon route provides the easiest way to the top and is the quickest going down. It takes the hiker through the mountain rain-forests, moorland vegetation and the alpine vegetation which include the giant heather, giant groundsel and giant lobelia. You hike up the Likii Valley and then into Mackinders valley where there is a spectacular views of the main peaks, and the goal is to reach Point Lenana in time to watch a breath-taking sunrise over this otherworldly and dramatic mountainous landscape on mount kenya.
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses camp

Duration: 2Hrs
pick up from your hotel and drive from Nairobi through central Kenya and proceed towards Nyeri with a nice view of Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares ranges in clear weather. You will have a brief stop over at the Equator near Nanyuki the base town before getting into town where you will pick the other team of cook, porters and also food supplies. Proceed to Sirimon park gate 2,650m. After a picnic lunch and clearing with the park authority, you will star t the hike through the forest accompanied by your guides, cook and porters to Old Moses camp 3,300m. ( 3-4 hrs walk)

Day 2: Old Moses camp – Shipton camp
Hiking Distance: 16Kms
Duration: 6Hrs
After breakfast, leave the camp with your packed lunch, follow the track uphill, forking right at the junction. After a water break, you continue on the track crossing Ontulili River before turning right contouring through the Moorland and crossing Liki North River and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic views up the valley towards the Shipton Camp. This camp is a surreal setting below the towering peaks and glacier. Resident population is of Rock hyrax and sunbirds.

Day 3: Shipton camp- Point Lenana – Old Moses camp – Nairobi
Hiking Distance: 24Kms
Duration: 10Hrs
This will be the longest day on the trip. Take an early morning tea and at around 3.00 am start the climbing along a lose scree which sometimes of the year is covered with snow to reach the summit of Lenana 4,985m. ( 3hrs) the third peak in Mt. Kenya to catch the sunrise and after a superb view from the summit as far as Mt. Kilimanjaro to the south, descend back to Shipton camp (2hrs) for breakfast. After the breakfast, descend down to Old Moses where you will connect a transfer car off the mountain to Nanyuki where you will drop the porters and then drive back to Nairobi arriving in the evening.
